Chhattisgarh General Studies | General Knowledge of Chhattisgarh: Chhattisgarh is the tenth largest state of India with an area of 135,194 square kilometers. The population of Chhattisgarh state is approximately 2.55 crores. Thus, in terms of population, Chhattisgarh is the sixteenth largest state in the country. Present Chhattisgarh came into existence on 01 November 2000 by separating from the state of Madhya Pradesh.
- Chhattisgarh was under Maratha Rule from 1741 to 1845.
- Chhattisgarh came under British rule from 1845 to 1947 as the Chhattisgarh Division of the Central Provinces.
- Raipur gained prominence over the capital Ratanpur with the advent of the British in 1845.
In 1905, the Sambalpur district was transferred to Odisha and the estates of Surguja were transferred from Bengal to Chhattisgarh.
Chhattisgarh state borders with seven other states i.e. Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Orissa, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh. The capital of Chhattisgarh state is Raipur, which is mainly the center of trade, economy, and administration. Chhattisgarh is also famous by the name of Dhan Ka Katora (meaning rice bowl).
Chhattisgarh is an important center of India in terms of electricity and steel production. About 15% of the total steel produced in India is produced in Chhattisgarh.
